September 2019

September 2, 2019

Summer is wrapping up.  As I write this, Labor Day is upon us.  For many of us this is the “unofficial” end of summer.  I love this time of year because autumn is my favorite season with cool temps and hoodies, but without heavy-duty coats.  Soups and stews start to appear on the home menu more, but I can grill without being eaten alive by bugs.  The colors of fall soon will appear with reds, yellows and oranges, but there is a lot of green left from summer.  I start watching hockey in October, but baseball is wrapping up with the playoffs.

A few years ago, one of the longest “dry spells” in baseball ended when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.  I live with a Cubs fan so I know how ecstatic the long-suffering fans were.  This month, we’re at a new venue for us, the Cub Club at Principal Park.  I’ve had lunch and breakfast here and this isn’t baseball food.  I’ve taken friends here who are more choosy about their food and they have greatly enjoyed it.  It’s now on their list of places to go for a good meal at a reasonable price.  Our speaker (hopefully) will be Sam Bernabe who has managed the I-Cubs for many, many years.  For those who don’t follow baseball, players from the I-Cubs go to the Chicago Cubs when they’re good enough.  I’m sure Mr. Bernabe has a lot of stories to tell about the history of one of our “hidden gems” and has a World Series ring to show us.

Come join us for good food at a new place with a sure to be interesting speaker.  For those concerned about parking, there is ample space in their parking lot on the north side of the stadium which is the entrance to the Cub Club.  RSVP at before 9/15.
