I hope everyone had a chance to visit the Iowa State Fair this year. I was able to make it twice, and the weather for the most part was excellent. Seems as if we are having an early fall since the weather is cooling down quickly. I can’t remember a year where my birthday at the end of August was chilly. I am ready for fall; bring on the football, sweatshirts, and crockpots. I have a couple fall trips planned that I am looking forward to also.
Last month in August we had a great meeting at Gilroy’s. They did a great job with the food and gave us brunch gift certificates. Our speaker Rekha Basu was exceptional. She shared with us some of her stories in her book, “Finding Her Voice,” which is a compilation of columns on women’s struggles and triumphs in the Midwest. She also gave out a signed copy of her book.
Please join us at Wobbly Boots in Clive for our September 15th meeting. This is the old Cheddars restaurant. Our speaker is Marsha Munger. She is the President of the Board for Bras for the Cause. She will tell us all about the organization and their upcoming Gala as well as bringing some decorated bras to show. RSVP at http://www.mwniowa.org/calendar.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Girls Night Out in the East Village on September 29th. This is a free event and is a lot of fun. There will be more information sent out as well as on our website.
In October we will have our Woman of the Year meeting at Sam & Gabe’s. Looking forward to seeing the remodeled room downstairs. I am pleased to announce that Kimberly Baeth, owner of Golden Openings is our Woman of the Year for 2016. Hope you can all plan ahead to come and congratulate her.
