September 2018

“So much time, and so little to do! Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it.” That’s one of my favorite lines from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory from 1971. I have a tendency to be like that. My husband can tell when I have a lot on my mind because I’ll mix up words and sayings. We’ve gotten some giggles out of what I’ve said.

Right now, we have a lot going on with MWN. We have a new website coming real soon. We need to be thinking about choosing a charity of the year (year-end social). Woman of the Year needs to be decided on soon (January meeting). Steering committee vacancies will need to be filled (also January meeting).

Please be thinking of what charity to choose. We’ve had some wonderful speakers from great organizations. We’ve had Jan Milroy from Living History Farms, Jill Featherstone from the Des Moines Art Center and Kellie Markey from Dorothy’s House.

Woman of the Year is coming soon. It doesn’t have to be anyone famous or well known. It needs to be a woman who has made a positive unique contribution to our community.

Steering committee has some vacancies to fill. Maureen Mitchell and her husband will be moving to Kansas City due to his job transfer. Maureen has served in the capacity of Vice President for the past two years. She has been a valuable asset in rewriting the By-Laws and Administrative Procedures documents. She will be greatly missed! If you’ve enjoyed the meetings, please consider joining the steering committee.

Last but not least, don’t forget to sign-up for the John Stoddard Cancer Center’s “Girl’s Night in the Village.” There are still spots open for this popular event. It starts at 5:30 at the State Historical Building on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

At MWN, these events are fun! It’s a good thing to be busy with good things. See you soon!
