April 2016

Hi All,

Where did our spring weather go? I thought we were going to have a different and warmer spring, and now it seems like a typical Iowa spring. I will be heading to Vegas in a couple weeks, and it is in the 80’s there, so I can’t complain. Hopefully, it warms up for you while I am gone; if not, maybe I can try and bring some warm weather back with me.

Thanks to all who applied for the Opportunity Grant in 2016. We have offered Opportunity Grants to Maureen Mitchell, Connie Blodgett, and Janet Seeberger this year. In the coming months, they will all three speak for a few minutes after our introductions to tell us what they used the money for and how it benefited them. Can’t wait to hear all of their stories.

Last month, we had a great time on St. Patrick’s Day at F & O’s (Formerly Felix & Oscars). If you were unable to attend, you missed a great speaker Rachel Aukes, who spoke about how to reset our lifestyle and have a more courageous lifestyle. She also gave away a few signed copies of her Zombie books.

Join us this month in April at Noah’s Ark on Ingersoll. RSVP at www.mwniowa.org/calendar. Our speaker will be Kelly Norris with the DM Botanical Garden. I can’t wait to hear about the outdoor gardens that opened to the public in April of 2015. Did you know they have 7 acres of outdoor gardens to walk through and enjoy?

Start thinking about nominations for our Woman of the Year. Once a year, we celebrate the accomplishments of a special woman in our community. MWN recognizes a woman who exemplifies leadership, charity, inspiration or courage. The recipient does not have to be a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize or the CEO of a company, but simply a woman whom we as a group acknowledge for her unique contributions to our community. Nomination forms are due by August 31, 2016.

See you soon!!

Sherri Johnson, President
