Welcome

“From the President’s Desk”

September 2012

What a fun evening with Dr. Koch. He shared some great tips with how we can take care of ourselves by simply exercising, nutrition, exfoliating, sunscreen, etc. His high energy and passion for taking care of your body was very motivational. He was also very generous and gave all of us ladies a “Free” European Facial and some Skin Medica products. I have already had the pleasure of receiving my facial and let me just say, you will not be disappointed. You will be pampered and your skin will feel refreshed.

My youngest daughter asked me, so what exactly is Labor Day? So many of the children have no idea how labor intensive the work was back in the 1800’s. Most laborers would work 12 hour days, seven days a week and sometimes this included children as young as five. It wasn’t until 1894 that Labor Day became a federal holiday. To most of us, it is a weekend that ends the summer, school has resumed, and a retail sale day. Labor Day has become one of the largest sale dates of the year, second to the Christmas season’s Black Friday. Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer and considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable to wear white.

However, to most of us the holiday is often regarded as a 3 day weekend, cookouts and one last weekend to go camping.

Hoping to see several of you at our September meeting held @ Latin King with Laura Hollingsworth, President and Publisher for the Des Moines Register as our guest speaker. Don’t miss out on the great food, speaker and Latin King will be giving a certificate to one lucky winner!
